Telehealth and Online Counselling for Men

Accessible online psychologist sessions for men across NSW and Australia

Telehealth means you can see a psychologist securely by video, wherever you are. Sessions work like in-person appointments, but you save travel time, skip the waiting room, and don't need to be in one place at a set time.

We support clients across Sydney and regional NSW, including Newcastle, the Central Coast, Wollongong, the Illawarra, the Northern Rivers, the Riverina, the Central West, and other states. In some cases, we also work with clients outside Australia.

Who telehealth tends to suit

  • People who work shifts or have changing rosters, making regular weekly appointments difficult.

  • Fly-in, fly-out arrangements, where continuity matters more than location.

  • If you live far from a psychologist, or local practices have long wait times.

  • If privacy is important and you would rather not be seen in a waiting room.

  • Work travel that would otherwise mean cancelling every second session.

  • Anyone with caring responsibilities that make it hard to leave home for appointments.

What telehealth works well for

We can deliver every therapy offered here via telehealth, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Research into telehealth-delivered therapy consistently finds outcomes comparable to in-person sessions across several presentations.

Choosing between telehealth and in-person

The choice usually comes down to circumstances rather than the approach.

Telehealth suits you if you have a private, uninterrupted space and a reliable connection. Some people find they settle more easily at home, and the session gives a clearer picture of the environment you actually live in.

In-person suits you if your home isn't private, your connection drops often, or you simply find it easier to do this work in a room with someone. Some people prefer to keep therapy separate from the place they live.

Many clients use both, with some sessions in the Surry Hills rooms and others by video, and that can change over time.

Rebates and funding

Medicare

Medicare rebates apply to telehealth just as they do for in person sessions. With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you can get a set number of rebated sessions each year. The rebate amount is the same whether your session is by video or in person.

WorkCover

WorkCover clients can access telehealth. Your case manager approves it, and sessions are funded the same way as in-person appointments.

CTP

Telehealth sessions are available under CTP insurance after a motor vehicle accident, with insurer approval.

Private health

Rebates for telehealth psychology depend on your fund and policy. It is best to check with your provider.

What you need

You need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a reliable internet connection, and a private space for your session. Headphones can help with sound quality and privacy if others are nearby.

Sessions use a secure video platform. You will receive a link before your appointment and simply click it when it is time. You don't need to download anything or create an account.

Common questions

Are telehealth sessions covered by Medicare?

Yes. With a Mental Health Treatment Plan and valid referral from your GP, the rebate for a telehealth session is the same as for an in-person session.

Do I need a referral?

Not to book. A GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan are needed for Medicare rebates, but you can see a psychologist privately without one.

Is telehealth as effective as seeing someone in person?

For most concerns, research shows telehealth is just as effective. Some situations are better suited to in person sessions, as explained above.

Can I switch between telehealth and in person?

Yes, and many clients do. You can mix sessions in the Surry Hills rooms and by video as it suits you.

Is it confidential?

The same confidentiality applies as to any psychology session, and the platform is encrypted. The part you need to plan is your end, so choose a space where you will not be overheard.

Can I do telehealth from outside Australia?

Medicare rebates are not available for sessions outside Australia, and registration limits may apply depending on the country. Check before you travel to see what is possible.

Getting started
